I am writing as a concerned member of the public regarding the international travel of a Taiwanese celebrity, Wu Geng-Lin (吳庚霖), better known by his stage name Aaron Yan (炎亞綸). His current legal name is Wu Bing-Ru (吳秉孺), under which he appeared as the defendant in a 2024 criminal judgment issued by the Shilin District Court of Taiwan (Case No. 112年度訴字第543號, dated May 30, 2024).
In this case, Mr. Wu was convicted under Taiwan’s Child and Youth Sexual Exploitation Prevention Act. The court found that in 2018, Mr. Wu solicited and obtained sexually explicit photos from a then-16-year-old individual with whom he was in a romantic relationship. The court determined that Mr. Wu was fully aware of the victims age at the time. Furthermore, when authorities conducted a legal search in 2023, he was still found in possession of these materials.
Although Mr. Wu was sentenced to seven months in prison with a three-year probation, the judgment confirmed the nature of the offense and its impact on the minor involved. This ruling is now final. Despite the conviction, Mr. Wu remains active in the entertainment industry and has reportedly traveled internationally following the judgment.
I understand that immigration decisions, including visa eligibility and admissibility, are made based on each country’s legal frameworks and security priorities. In the United States, statutes such as the Adam Walsh Act and other immigration-related laws express a firm stance on offenses involving minors and sexually explicit materials.
