Hip Hop.

Its a generalized term to describe break dancing, locking and popping. It is a freestyle dance that used to be only performed/ or battled by the street dancers. (If you are not familiar with what "battle" means, Eminem's movie, 8 Mile, will tell you a lot about it. ) Hip Hop has become so FIERCELY impacted our lives that it is not only an improv dance, it is a studio dance, a fashion, a music genre, and a lifestyle.

B Boys are from the streets.

Break dancing and hip hop are their kind of expertise. They do not have traditional training in the classroom. They learn from other street dancers. And the streets are their stage to perform or battle. They do not look as graceful as a "real dancer." After all, they do lots of "tricks" -- spinning on the head or twisting and turning like a worm. Well, its B Boy's stuff.

Joshua and Legacy are two B Boys, who made it to the top 20  from two different seasons of SYTYCD. Joshua, season 4. Legacy, current season 6.

They sure do NOT look like a B Boy in these performances though....

Joshua and Katee's bollywood is the BEST I have seen in the show...

obviously he is a GENIOUS. i think the geisha one is especially intriguing...yet the emmy award winning piece reminds me of this vampire movie.

wade robson is one of the award-winning choreographers in SYTYCD. he specializes in jazz and pop jazz.

if you are not familiar with his name, i bet you are with his work. he choreographed britney spears' pepsi commercials which aired in the 2001 super bowl. seven years later today he was hired again for her comeback tour, The Circus Starring: Britney Spears. She called wade "a frigging baby."

i think he is a GENIUS! he is good at using the lighting, make-up, costumes in the choreograph to make the work PLAYFUL, UNIQUE and MESMERIZING!!

as you can see there is lots of Michael Jackson's Thriller in ramalama. thats right. robson first saw the music video of Thriller at the age of two, by three (YES, THREE!) he had it memorized. he made it to M.J.'s Bad tour to Australia and became a child back-up dancer for King of Pop.

ballroom dancing requires techniques as well as performance. i liked melissa for the fact that she came to SYTYCD as a trained ballerina, but she outperformed everyone else in any genre she's danced and the camera LOVED her. i guess it has a lot to do with the life experience she's had. being the oldest dancer in season 5, however, gave her advantange!

if you liked the tender subtleness in rumba, try something bold, muscular and very fast paced -- hip hop. who would know that the combination of latin ballroom and hip hop could be just as HOT?
