Ben leaned over the edge of the tub. He turned on the hot and cold water faucets. The water came out of the spout near the top of the tub. He pushed down on the lever beneath the spout so that the water would drain. He was going to take a shower, not a bath.

He tested the temperature. It wasn’t hot enough. He adjusted the hot water faucet. There was another handle between the hot and cold faucets. This one controlled whether water came out of the spout or out of the shower head. Ben turned it all the way to the right. Now hot water was coming out of the shower head. The temperature was just right.

Ben took off his robe and stepped over the top of the tub. He pulled the shower door closed. He grabbed the bar of soap out of the soap dish and started scrubbing his face.

While his eyes were closed to keep out the soap, he put the soap back into the dish. Then he reached for the big plastic container of shampoo on his window ledge. The bottle slipped out of his hands and landed on his left foot.

"Shoot!" Ben said angrily. That hurt.

　　Life is short, so it is imperative that we do not waste a moment of it. We should all live life to the fullest. In order to do that we must focus on what is important in life. By paying attention to the right things we can make our lives colorful rather than dull.

　　The four most important components of a colorful life are quality of life, people, health and passion. The first, quality of life, can be achieved by doing everything to the best of our ability. If we do that, success will come to us. Second, we must value the people and relationships in our lives. People are the secret to happiness, so we must always treat them right. Third, we must treat our body right, too. It is difficult to enjor life without good health. The last ingredient, passion, is perhaps the most important. We must commit one hundred percent to our relationships and career.

　　We should have a passion for living. In conclusion, we can all have wonderful lives. All we have to do is remember that the for keys to a colorful life are: quality of life, people, health and passion. By paying attention to these things we are bound to live meaningfully and well.

The story of the Post-it note…

The Post it Note. This humble yellow sticky note has changed the way people go about their daily business the world over. No where more so than here at Happen, where we have become almost famous for our constant use of those handy little sticky notes. But, did you know that it’s just one example of a product that made it to market thanks to an intrapreneur?

In 1968, Spencer Silver was working on a super strong adhesive for use in the aerospace industry to use in building planes. However instead of a really strong adhesive, Spencer made a mistake and ended up creating a low tack adhesive instead.

Being somewhat of an intraprenuer, he thought there was something in this and tried to sell it in to colleagues, and the marketing department at 3M for 5 years, without anyone thinking of a use for it.

Five years on and a chemical engineer at 3M mentioned to Silver that he used the adhesive to keep the pages of his choir book, so he could find hymns easily at choir practice. And the Post-it Note was born.

You may think the story ends there, but unfortunately not. Because management at 3M still didn’t think the product would be commercially successful, they shelved it for three years. Even though, during that time, Post It notes were incredibly popular with 3M colleagues.

It wasn’t until they gave out hundreds of samples to offices in Idaho that management realised how popular the Post it Note would be. The re-order rate was 90% – double the best rate 3M had ever seen for any other product they’d introduced.  Two years later, the Post-It note was released throughout the United States.

So it may have taken one initial accident, 5 years of constant rejection, a chance conversation with a colleague, and another 7 years in development, but it was worth it in the end. Post-its are now one of the top five selling office supply products in the world. All thanks to an intrapreneur.

Having fun at the zoo 動物園的趣事

　　I went to the Mu zha zoo with my friends last Sunday.

　　I went to the Mu zha zoo with my friends last Sunday. It is on the road to Mu zha in taipei. It took us about forty minutes to get there by MRT. There was a big Mcdonald's near by the zoo. There was so many people that it took us some time to buy the tickets. Around the entrance there were many vendors they were selling toys and puppets. We took a look at these vendors and then went inside the zoo.

　　There were many sections in the zoo, like bird world, the animal area, the penguin house and the koala house. We just follow the crowd and watched those cute animals. Some animals were cute and funny, such as the parrots: and some others were lazy, like hippos. It was the sunny day so we were take a rest under the tree when it was too hot. After we visited all the sections I like all of the animals in the zoo except for some crazy monkeys.

　　I was most inpriced by the nocturnal animal house. I usually enjoyed watching those animals because I thought they were cool and beautiful, like the owls. Another reason I like the nocturnal animal house is because it was cool in the house, but everything was a little smelling. We left the zoo in the evening and was still a lot of people outside the zoo. I hope I can come back soon because I think this is a really fun place.
