Vivekananda Setu/Willingdon Bridge/Bally Bridge, Kolkata, West Bengal - India

Vivekananda Setu (also called Willingdon Bridge and Bally Bridge) is a bridge over the Hooghly River in West Bengal, India. It links the city of Howrah, at Bally, to its twin city of Kolkata, at Dakshineswar. Built in December 1932, it is a multispan steel bridge and was built to provide road cum rail link between the Calcutta Port and its hinterland.
The construction of bridge was done by famous Kutchi-Mistri contractor and Industrialist Rai Bahadur Jagmal Raja Chauhan. His nameplate can still be seen on each girder of the bridge. The construction of bridge started in year 1926 and was completed in year 1932.
The bridge was named Wellington Bridge by British after the then Governor of Calcutta. The first train that ran across the bridge was named Jagmal Raja Howrah Express by British acknowledging the feat of Rai Bahadur Jagaml Raja. It is said that bridge cost over one crore in those years.
The bridge serves both road and rail:
Rail - connects Sealdah Station to Delhi
Road - connects Grand Trunk Road (Howrah side) to Barrackpore Trunk Road (Kolkata side)
The famous Dakshineswar Temple is situated on the banks of the Hooghly river near the Bally Bridge. The bridge also has sister bridges over the river at different points, namely the Howrah Bridge (Rabindra Setu) and the Vidyasagar Setu.
This bridge currently handles a daily traffic of 24,000 vehicles (per data released by National Highway section of PWD). This bridge handles the maximum number of goods vehicles coming into the city via the National Highways 2 and 6 of India.

Office Returning Crowd in Howrah Bridge | Kolkata

it's 8 pm....you can only flow with the crowd crossing the bridge, to go to the Howrah Station for catching relevant trains to return home...huge number of people come daily from outside Kolkata for office...the howrah station is seen in the backdrop in the left in the bank of the Ganges...the Howrah Bridge is wonderfully lit with lavender colored lights...photography is prohibited on the bridge...i shot sneakily...

Daksheshwinar Temple

The Dakshineswar Kali Temple (Bengali: দক্ষিনেশ্বর কালী মন্দির Dokkhineshshôr Kali Mondir, Sanskrit: दक्षिनेश्वर काली मन्दिर) is a Hindu temple located in Dakshineswar near Kolkata. Situated on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River, the presiding deity of the temple is Bhavatarini, an aspect of Kali, literally meaning, 'She who takes Her devotees across the ocean of existence'.[1] The temple was built by Rani Rashmoni, a philanthropist and a devotee of Kali in 1855.

The temple compound, apart from the nine-spired main temple, contains a large courtyard surrounding the temple, with rooms along the boundary walls. There are twelve shrines dedicated to the aspects of Shiva, Kali's companion, along the riverfront, a temple to Radha-Krishna, a bathing ghat on the river, a bookshop, a shrine to Rani Rashmoni. The chamber in the northwestern corner just beyond the last of the Shiva temples, is where Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa spent a considerable part of his life.
