Dear Freinds,
In case you missed the big news last week, the California State Legislature just took a huge step toward greater campaign finance disclosure.
Last week the State Senate, on a bipartisan vote of 28-7, passed Senate Bill 27 (Correa), the campaign disclosure bill that directly addresses the
Arizona dark money scandal uncovered by California Common Cause in 2012.
SB 27 will close the nonprofit reporting loophole. This will ensure that future campaigns receiving millions from out-of-state special interest nonprofits will have to disclose the sources. SB 27 cleared the final hurdle in the State Legislature. Now it is up to Governor Brown to prove he is serious about shedding light on dark money.
Thank you for your continued commitment to improved campaign disclosure. Together we vow to restore our democracy and uphold the core values of transparency, honesty, and accountability.
Sincerely,
Sarah Swanbeck, Legislative Affairs
