common cause - holding power accountable

Dear Friends,

We gathered 27,075 signatures for the FCC

Now help us keep up the pressure!

What an incredible way to kick off our new Media and Democracy Reform Initiative!

As of today, we collected signatures on petitions to the Federal Communications Commission. Together with supporters like you, we are demanding the FCC start enforcing its own rules and require disclosure in political TV ad spending.

This is a powerful and crucial first step toward letting the American people know exactly who's behind those anonymous and often misleading political ads you on TV.

But we need your help to keep up the pressure -- and build even more momentum for the battles to come as our Media and Democracy Reform Initiative takes off.

Please donate $20 or more today to help launch our Media and Democracy Reform Initiative with enough resources to keep the pressure on the FCC and put the rest of our plans into action.

Any democracy that truly serves the people requires the free flow of information. With your immediate support and former FCC Chairman Michael Copps' strong leadership in this program at Common Cause, we will:

  • Fight for every American to have equal access to open and diverse media sources
  • Expose how the telecom industry dictates government policies that benefit corporations, not people
  • Protect an open, uncensored Internet
  • Stand against any and all attempts to give fewer and fewer companies monopoly control over more and more of our media channels.

But first, we'll do whatever it takes to force the FCC to disclose who's buying political TV ads. This is a huge opportunity to expose the special interest spending unleashed byCitizens United. But we can't do it without you.

Pitch in today. Help jump start our Media and Democracy Reform Initiative with an immediate win for media transparency and prepare us for the next big fight.

Media coverage shapes our national discourse on the biggest issues of our time. That's why we can't let a few powerful corporations control the debate. With your help, we won't.

Thanks for pitching in,

Bob Edgar
