(法新社華盛頓四日電)美國波音飛機公司今天表示,由於螺絲安裝問題,以及受到機械工人罷工的嚴重影響,原訂的787夢幻客機首航時間將延後。

波音公司負責夢幻客機計畫的發言人李契表示,客機的首航將「無法如期在第四季實施。」

她指出,公司是根據螺絲零件問題和一直到上週才結束,長達五十八天的機械工罷工等情況評估這項計畫,將在所有的程序都完成後,重新宣布新的首航時間表。

李契說,公司的檢查人員發現,四架在波音華盛頓艾佛雷特廠內進行最後裝配的787測試機,有百分之三用來結合機身各部份的螺絲安裝不正確。

她說,有些不是太短就是太長,無法適當的結合各部份。

她表示,問題出在包括美國境內和國外的結構供應商。

這種機型的機翼由日本三菱代理生產、機身由義大利的艾倫尼亞電機公司負責;另兩家美國廠商伏特飛機製造公司和Spirit Aerosystems分別負責生產尾部和機頭部分。

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Boeing Tuesday postponed the first test flight of its new 787 Dreamliner because of problems with fasteners and a crippling 58-day machinists strike.

The Dreamliner's "first flight is not going to be accomplished" in the fourth quarter as planned, Yvonne Leach, a Boeing spokeswoman for the Dreamliner program, told AFP.

The company is assessing the program in light of the fastener problems and a 58-day machinists strike that ended Sunday and will announce a new Dreamliner launch timetable when that that process is completed, she said.

Leach said company inspectors found that about three percent of the fasteners used to hold together sections and parts of the new plane were incorrectly sized.

Some of them were too short and some were too long, so they did not properly hold together sections and parts, she said.

Boeing is assembling four 787 test jets at its plant in Everett, Washington.

In a production departure, Boeing has relieved heavily on outside contractors for the 787, drawing criticism from labor unions about outsourced jobs.

The faulty fastener installations occurred with Boeing's US and foreign structure suppliers for the Dreamliner, Leach said.

Japan's Mitsubishi supplies the wings; Alenia of Italy is building the fuselage, and two US firms, Vought Aircraft Industries and Spirit Aerosystems, are constructing the tail and nose, respectively.

Leach said the fastener problems were being corrected in Everett and by the suppliers, stressing that production problems were a normal part of building aircraft.

Leach said the 58-day machinists strike affected production of the Dreamliner as well as other aircraft "day for day."

Boeing's 27,000 machinists returned to work Sunday after voting by a large majority to accept a federally mediated four-year labor contract.

The strike launched September 6 was estimated by some analysts to have cost the company more than 100 million dollars per day.

Hurt by the strike, Dreamliner delays and a difficult economic environment, Boeing announced in late October that third-quarter net profit fell 38 percent.

The group delivered only 84 aircraft in the July-September period, 35 fewer than scheduled, after delivering 125 in the second quarter and 115 in the first.

It was the fourth time Boeing has delayed the Dreamliner launch. The first deliveries of the 787, initially planned for the first half of 2008, most recently had been pushed back to the third quarter of 2009 due to production difficulties.

The Dreamliner, Boeing's first new model in over a decade, takes advantage of the huge advances made in aviation technology in the past decade, and was designed using high-tech plastic composites instead of aluminum.

According to Boeing, the 787 will use 20 percent less fuel than today's airplanes of comparable size.

Boeing says it has received nearly 900 orders to date for the 787 Dreamliner from more than 55 customers worldwide.

Analysts at Jefferies & Co. said the latest production issues should be addressed "within a reasonable period of time."

"The appropriate fasteners are available, so there should not be any further delay beyond the inspection and reassembly process," they wrote in a client note.

Shares in Boeing closed 1.46 percent higher at 53.62 dollars amid a powerful rally as Americans voted in presidential and congressional elections.

[據美國《航空週刊與空間技術》2009年8月26日報導]波音表示目前正積極籌畫在北查爾斯頓建立第二條波音787的總裝線,該地目前是波音787部分機體結構的生產地。波音公司官員Candy Eslinger表示目前還沒有決定生產線將建於何處,目前波音正在研究建立這一生產線的必要性,今年底可能將確定具體的地點。

      Eslinger表示建立這一生產線是必須的。本刊今年六月曾經報導北查爾斯頓是波音787第二條總裝線的首選之地,該處將用來生產波音787的加長型波音787-9。這條總裝線有望最早於2010年末開始運行。

      波音和阿萊尼亞投資的位於北查爾斯頓的全球航空公司是中機身裝配地點,今年6月波音收購了沃特飛機公司生產波音787後機身的部門,該段的生產也位於北查爾斯頓國際機場。該機場是波音全球供應鏈的一個重要節點。

Boeing To Seek Permits For Second 787 Line

Boeing says it is ready to take the first steps to make it easier to build a second 787 final assembly line in North Charleston, S.C. where it already makes part of the airplane's fuselage.

"No decision has been made" on where to locate that factory, Candy Eslinger, a company official, said. At this point, Boeing is simply saying that it intends to take "the procedural step" of filing for the necessary permits to open the factory, she said, reiterating earlier company comments that a location is to be chosen by yearend.

"This is necessary because the permitting process is comprehensive and requires a standard lead time," Eslinger said. "Making the announcement public in advance makes it easier for Boeing people to go in and engage with the appropriate [state officials] and businesses we need to work with us."

Aviation Week reported in June that the Charleston site was ranked first by Boeing as the site for the second assembly line, which is expected to be dedicated to production of the stretched 787-9 model. The line is expected to be in operation in late 2010 at the earliest.

At that time, Boeing was a half partner with Alenia in Global Aeronautica, a center fuselage integration factory in North Charleston. But in July it bought out Vought Aircraft's aft fuselage factory next door to Global Aeronautica, doubling its factory presence at Charleston International Airport.

The airport is a key link in Boeing's global logistics network that flies major wing and fuselage assemblies among factories.

Boeing's current 787 final assembly line is at its traditional wide-body assembly factory in Everett, Wash. Washington state civil and political leaders are fighting to keep all assembly of the aircraft in the state, but company officials want guarantees of "labor peace" following last year's two-month strike by the International Association of Machinists in Aerospace.

South Carolina is a right-to-work state, although about 300 machinists at Boeing Charleston are represented by the IAM. However, a decertification vote has been set for Sept. 10 to try to oust the union.

波音聲明指出:「787型Dreamliner客機預料2009年底前首次試飛,2010年第4季預定交機。」

波音6月23日第5度宣布延後交機,以修復機身側面結構問題,當時未公佈新交機時程。

全日空表示,對延後交機感到錯愕及失望。全日空訂購55台787型Dreamliner客機。

[據加拿大複合材料網站2009年8月18日報導] 據全球飛行網站(Flight Global website)博客中公佈的一封信中報導,因為製造缺陷引起整體機身蒙皮產生褶皺,義大利阿來尼亞航空製造公司已經停止了波音787兩大部件的生產。這封用波音信箋寫的帶有署名和時期為6月23日的信件上說,機身44段和46段的問題跟波音在6月份推遲首飛時公佈的機翼和機身連接處的問題不是同一會事。

      根據這封信上說,停止生產是“因為桁條邊緣凸台”引起機身蒙皮的褶皺要比此前試製生產確定(PPV)的要大。用於機身縱向結構的桁條邊緣凸台為複合材料結構,和機身蒙皮粘接在一起並提供強度。信上還說,從7到29套件都需要修理。其中4個在波音華盛頓的埃弗雷特工廠進行,8個在全球航空製造公司的西佛吉尼亞州查爾斯頓工廠進行,剩下的13個在義大利Grottaglie的工廠進行。

      根據信上說,修改主要是控制此前已經在試製生產確定的“邊緣凸台”高度。但信上說,阿來尼亞已經表示“不能照辦”,並要求“取消凸台高度控制的規定”。波音公司得出結論說,“根據結構分析,……,這是無法接受的”。因為褶皺“就意味著如果不進行工程修改,每個單元將有大修的風險”。

    【據航空防務網2009年07月23日報導】波音787專案已經確定了針對先前公佈的增強聯合機身側邊所需一項技術解決方案,並在評估可選擇的方法來實現這一方案。

    波音公司希望在第三季度內完成計畫的估價和財政預算,(專案)最近的重大事件包括了第一次飛機試飛時的挑戰測試和低速的士測試。

    公司最近還宣佈已經在獲得支持787專案的沃特南卡羅來納州工廠上達成一致,包括列入詳單的大約79億美元的787工程進度清單、供應商和加工費用的現金墊款。

[據英國《飛行國際》2009年7月9日報導] 波音公司證實首架波音787飛行試驗機ZA001號於週二開始進行低速滑行試驗。本刊下屬的“飛行博客”欄目獲得了波音787滑行的視頻和照片。

Boeing 787 completes early taxi testing

Boeing completed early low-speed taxi tests for the first 787 on 7 July. The tests, which began with a 15kt (28km/h) roll all the way up to just over 100kt, lasted more than 6h, and also featured a maximum braking rejected take-off test.

Boeing says that all the braking during the testing was done manually and did not use the aircraft's autobrake system. The speed range for low-speed taxi testing hovers below 120kt, with high-speed testing between 120kt and 130kt, Boeing says. The airframer expects that the rotation speed for the 787 on its maiden flight will be around 150kt.

The 787 fleet remains grounded and prohibited from undergoing high-speed taxi testing until a remedial reinforcement is installed on the side of body where the wing meets the centre wing box.

Boeing is re-evaluating the programme schedule as it works to design, fabricate and test a fix on the wing join, and is expected to provide an update on the first-flight timing in the "next several weeks".

(法新社東京1日電) 日本全日空航空公司(AllNippon Airways)今天再下訂單,增購五架美國航空業巨擘波音公司(Boeing)麻煩多多的787夢幻客機(Dearmliner),使訂購數量增至55架。

全日空是這款下一世代787夢幻客機的第一家客戶,只是這款客機的生產進度已一延再延。

波音上個月第5度推遲夢幻客機的處女航與交機日期,以加強飛機的結構。這項夢幻客機計畫獲公認攸關波音前途,如今又一次受挫。

全日空表示,這次採購787型飛機的訂單是要取代先前購買五架767-300ER型飛機的訂單。

(法新社雪梨26日電)澳洲航空公司(Qantas)今天宣布取消15架波音787(Boeing 787)夢幻客機(Dreamliner)訂單,原因是全球經濟環境已經出現劇變。

澳航執行長喬伊斯(Alan Joyce)在聲明中表示,「公司是在2005年12月宣布B787訂單,但航空業經營環境已經出現明顯改變」。

喬伊斯說,取消訂單可為澳航省下30億美元的開銷。

此外,澳航與波音也同意延後另外15架夢幻客機的交機時間。

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Boeing Tuesday delayed the first flight and delivery of its 787 Dreamliner to reinforce the structure of the aircraft, the latest setback in a program seen as a key to the aerospace giant's future.

Boeing said a new schedule for the first flight and delivery would be available in "several weeks" and that in the interim the 787 team will continue with other aspects of testing.

Boeing said in a statement the delay was "due to a need to reinforce an area within the side-of-body section of the aircraft."

It added that the need "was identified during the recent regularly scheduled tests on the full-scale static test airplane."

Scott Carson, president and chief executive of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said the postponement was the correct decision.

"Consideration was given to a temporary solution that would allow us to fly as scheduled, but we ultimately concluded that the right thing was to develop, design, test and incorporate a permanent modification to the localized area requiring reinforcement," Carson said.

Boeing executives said the fix does not represent a fundamental problem with the carbon-fiber composite material from which the airplane is constructed.

"Composites are the right material," said Pat Shanahan, head of airplane programs. "We will correct this situation and do it with both care and urgency."

Boeing had planned for the much-delayed Dreamliner to have its maiden flight by June 30 on a schedule that would allow delivery of the plane to first customer, All Nippon Airways (ANA), in the first quarter of 2010.

The Boeing statement said a preliminary analysis indicated that flight test could proceed this month as planned, and last week Boeing officials said the maiden flight was on schedule.

"However, after further testing and consideration of possible modified flight test plans, the decision was made late last week that first flight should instead be postponed until productive flight testing could occur," the company said.

This marked the fifth delay for the Dreamliner, already nearly two years behind the initial schedule.

The new delay is bad news for Boeing, which is facing fierce competition in the aviation market from Airbus, a unit of the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company.

Airbus has begun working on a new long-range A350 plane aimed at competing with the Dreamliner, expected to fly in mid-2013.

Boeing says it has 865 orders from 56 airlines for the cutting-edge plane, claiming it is the "fastest-selling all-new jetliner in aviation history" but the delays have led to some cancellations.

The 787 Dreamliner is the company's first new model in more than a decade and features 50 percent plastic composites, compared with 12 percent on its 777s, helping lower fuel consumption.

According to Boeing, the 787 will use 20 percent less fuel than similarly sized airplanes, reducing emissions by a similar amount.

Boeing said it would update its financial guidance to reflect any impact of these changes when the company issues its second quarter 2009 earnings report in July.

Boeing shares fell 6.46 percent to close at 43.87 dollars.

WASHINGTON (AFP) – US aerospace giant Boeing is readying its 787 Dreamliner for first test flight in the coming days, banking on the new fuel-efficient plane to sail above stiff market headwinds.

Boeing expects the much-delayed Dreamliner to have its maiden flight by June 30 on a schedule that puts delivery of the plane to first customer, All Nippon Airways (ANA), in the first quarter of 2010.

"We're very much looking forward to seeing our airplane take to the skies," Marc Birtel, a Boeing spokesman, said in a phone interview with AFP Friday.

No specific date has been announced for the flight.

Nearly two years behind the initial schedule, the company has delayed the Dreamliner's first flight four times since launching the program in 2004 because of production problems.

The Chicago-based company announced Wednesday final assembly had begun on the first aircraft destined for ANA, which has ordered 50 Dreamliners.

"This is a great day for the 787 team," Scott Fancher, vice president and general manager of the Dreamliner program, said in a statement.

"In 2004, ANA demonstrated great faith in Boeing and the 787 by placing the largest launch order for any new airplane in Boeing history."

Boeing has built six Dreamliners that will be used in the flight-test program to assure the plane's safety for the company and for regulators, including the Federal Aviation Administration and foreign authorities, Birtel said.

"The main mantra is safety," he said.

Plagued by problems from a complex international production system and a two-month machinists strike last year, the Dreamliner's delays have irked customers and resulted in order cancellations.

The latest delay, announced last December, postponed first flight into the second quarter of 2009, from the fourth quarter of 2008. Launch customer ANA complained about the new delay for first delivery of the plane which initially was set for the third quarter of 2009.

In January, Russian carrier S7 Airlines announced the cancellation of an order for 15 Dreamliners. The next month Boeing said that Dubai-based aircraft leasing company LCAL had cancelled 16 of the 21 planes ordered.

The launch of the new plane comes amid turbulence in the aviation industry as the global economy slumps in the worst economic crisis in decades.

A plunge in passenger air travel has led to massive cancellations and deferrals of aircraft orders.

The International Air Transport Association projects that passenger traffic will fall eight percent this year and airlines could lose nine billion dollars, almost double the estimate three months ago.

That would be on top of 10.4 billion dollars lost in 2008, according to IATA.

Boeing earlier this month lowered its outlook for the world commercial airplane market over the next two decades because of the global economic downturn, slumping air traffic and volatile fuel prices.

But it forecast the growing Asia Pacific region will lead the commercial airplane market in both units and value.

Japanese carriers buy almost exclusively from the US aerospace giant, which is keeping a close eye on arch rival Airbus.

The France-based manufacturer, a unit of the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company, has begun working on a new long-range A350 plane aimed at competing with the Dreamliner, expected to fly in mid-2013.

Boeing's financial losses have shaken investor confidence and the company has announced 10,000 job cuts for 2009, including 4,500 in the commercial aircraft division.

    【據航空週刊2009年05月22日報導】在全新飛機上完成了引擎首輪啟動(測試)以後,波音公司在787夢想客機的第一次飛行道路上穩步前進,這也標誌著全電動商業客機引擎用於商業噴氣式飛機的開端。

    引擎在今天上午9點30分的時候啟動,並於40分鐘後熄滅。在最初運轉的時間內,引擎被放置於各種預設的環境內,以此確保它可在各種條件下的性能。今天的引擎測試是在輔助動力系統提供雙電源的情況下,啟動了羅爾斯-羅伊斯公司的瑞達(Trent)1000引擎。

    測試中基礎系統檢測一直在進行,引擎關閉後進行檢測並會在一項技術評測之後重新啟動。為保證引擎達到預期效果,測試小組完成了一次振動檢測並監測了關閉引擎後的邏輯運算。

Boeing Begins Engine Tests On 787

Boeing has begun engine test runs on the 787, with engine start on ZA001 occurring shortly after 9:30 a.m. local time today.

The aircraft is expected to undertake hydraulic system ground tests tomorrow as the run up to the final stages of 'gauntlet' ground tests, and as taxi tests continue.

Meanwhile, systems 'power-on' is edging closer for the third test aircraft, ZA003, while ZA002 is entering its factory gauntlet test phase, the company said. The auxiliary power unit has also been installed in ZA004, while preliminary flight crew rehearsals are underway for the first two General Electric-powered aircraft, ZA005 and ZA006.

The Trent 1000s on ZA001 are configured to an interim standard for the start of flight tests, and will be superseded by an improved build standard -4A version on the later test aircraft, ZA004. The first engine for this upgrade effort, which is mainly based on a revised low-pressure turbine design, is due to run this month at Rolls-Royce's Derby plant in the U.K.
