這是為因應美國空軍和海軍的作戰需求而研發,乃是以美軍現存的普通常規炸彈升級發展而來,利用衛星定位系統(GPS)引導的全天候、自動搜尋目標的新式導引炸彈。

由MK-81(250磅)、MK-82(500磅)、MK-83(1,000磅)和MK-84(2,000磅)傳統炸彈改裝而來的JDAM,MK-84與BLU-109改裝者為GBU-29,MK-81改裝者為GBU-30,而由MK-82改裝者為GBU-32,GBU-31是由MK-83與BLU-110改裝。

炸彈尾部安裝了GPS,能夠在任何天氣情況下精確命中目標,不像一般的雷射導引炸彈容易受到雲、霧以及其他惡劣的天氣的限制。JDAM能從距離目標24公里的高度投下,並在GPS的修正下精確打擊目標,圓周誤差值(CEP)僅在13公尺之內,約9.6公尺,系統可靠性達到95%。

洛克威爾B-1B、諾格B-2A、波音B-52H、諾格F/A-18E/F及洛馬F-16C/D後期批號,均可投擲此JDAM。而且B-2A可同時投擲二枚JDAM,對兩個不同的目標進行同步攻擊。

(中央社記者姜遠珍首爾2日專電)南韓檢方和軍方對包括現役空軍中校在內3人展開羈押調查,他們涉嫌向美國洛克希德‧馬丁公司洩露有關對北韓作戰計劃的重要軍事機密。

南韓「朝鮮日報」今天報導,首爾中央地方檢察廳公安1部於3月24日根據機務司令部轉交的調查記錄,對已退役空軍上校張某進行了拘留。

機務司令部也對同樣涉嫌洩密的1名空軍中校,強制保留其原定於3月31日的退役,展開了進一步調查。

據報導,張某在2006年退役後,於2009年年底進入洛克希德‧馬丁公司的南韓代銷商S公司。

他洩漏的機密包含2012年到2026年空軍主要武器採購計劃和戰力增強計劃的「聯合武器體系計劃書」、南韓軍方正引進的新武器(JASSM)和(WCMD)採購計劃等。

[據英國《飛行國際》2011年2月15日報導]韓國計畫為其F-16 C/D戰鬥機配備波音GBU-31“聯合直接攻擊彈藥”(JDAM),韓國空軍稱近期開發了一套軟體,使其F-16能夠發射JDAM,大幅增強作戰能力。

韓國空軍少校Kim Se-hun稱,我們已經進行了三次試射,成功驗證了自主開發的軟體能夠相容JDAM,對目標進行精確打擊。

JDAM制導套件包括裝有全球定位/慣性制導系統的尾部元件,彈體中部安裝保持飛行穩定性的翼片,使得常規炸彈變成“靈巧炸彈”。

隨後韓國可能會對其F-16 C/D機隊進行升級,大部分是第52批次,其餘的是第32批次。飛行國際的MiliCAS資料庫顯示,韓國裝備有118架F-16C和51架雙座型F-16D。

據某工業部門人士透漏,F-16的升級將會換裝新型任務電腦,還可能引進與美國飛機以及韓國F-15K戰鬥機相同的資料鏈,目前波音公司已向韓國交付了46架F-15K。(中國航空工業發展研究中心  尹常琦)

South Korea plans to equip its Lockheed Martin F-16C/D fighters with Boeing's GBU-31 Joint Direct Attack Munition.

"We recently developed a software that enables JDAM to be fired and improves combat capabilities of the F-16," says the South Korean air force.

"We have performed three firing tests, confirming that our self-developed software works with JDAM, and can hit targets precisely," says Maj Kim Se-hun of the air force.

The JDAM guidance kit converts "dumb" bombs into smart weapons by incorporating a new tail with global positioning/inertial navigation system guidance, and adds body strakes for stability and lift.

At some point South Korea is likely to upgrade its fleet of F-16C/Ds. The majority of these are Block 52 models, with the remainder being Block 32s. Flightglobal's MiliCAS database says the nation has 118 F-16Cs and 51 two-seater F-16Ds.

The common configuration improvement programme for the F-16 would provide a new mission computer, says an industry source. It would also introduce a common datalink with US aircraft, as well as Seoul's own fleet of Boeing F-15Ks. The US manufacturer has so far delivered 46 of the latter type, with another on order.

(中央社記者姜遠珍首爾9日專電)南韓空軍今天表示,KF-16戰機可搭載GPS制導導彈「聯合定向攻擊炸彈」(Joint Direct Attack Munitions,JDAM),未來將投入實戰部署。

南韓「聯合新聞通訊社」指出,空軍透露,南韓自主開發了在KF-16戰機上可操作JDAM的軟體,並已成功進行3次試射。1月底,空軍已針對飛行官操作JDAM進行培訓。

南韓軍需司令官上午在南韓西部瑞山基地主持「KF-16 JDAM戰力化」儀式,使得南韓空軍繼F-15K之後,KF-16戰機也配備了JDAM系統。

報導中說,JDAM是一種改造傳統彈藥的智慧武器。具體而言,在傳統炸彈上安裝導彈系統和彈翼,同時採用全球衛星定位系統(GPS)和慣性導航系統(INS)等制導系統,因此能不分晝夜精準轟炸。

JDAM炸彈比其他精密誘導炸彈的價格低了約7000萬韓元(約7萬美元),不受氣候影響,即使未精確對準目標,也能自動準確找到目標。

空軍當局表示,淨重2000磅、射程達24公里、誤差範圍在13公尺以內的JDAM,是同時打擊北韓地區坑道內長射程炮等多數主要戰略目標的最佳武器。今後在KF-16戰機也能配備JDAM,南韓空軍的打擊能力將大幅提升。

空軍雖以掌握空優為使命,卻也肩負以優勢火力支援友軍作戰及癱瘓敵有生力量的責任。基此,空軍戰機需要擁有精準、火力強的對地攻擊武器,造成敵方的沉重壓力,強化對地攻擊能力也成為當前各國空軍建軍的主要方向。以美國空軍來說,已長期服役的小牛飛彈,讓F-16、A10等戰機具備對地攻擊能力,直至JDAM、雷射導引炸彈等精準攻擊武器問世後,美國空軍戰機既能摧毀敵人地面部隊,亦能重創敵人碉堡、廠庫等軍事設施。本週「軍武大觀」單元特就美國空軍對地攻擊武器聚焦介紹。(編按)過去在飛彈尚未成為戰機主要武器,科技仍未充分運用在武器裝備上時,戰機最多攜掛炸彈,飛往敵陣地、軍事目標區投彈。隨著飛彈被研發及充分運用,加上高科技的加持,現在不僅有空對地飛彈、所具備的精準導引武器更藉GPS的定位,讓被攻擊的目標無所遁形,誤差率幾乎低到趨近零。以美國為例,由於介入區域性軍事衝突已是美國軍方主要任務,因應作戰需要,空軍戰機往往需要深入敵境支援地面友軍或摧毀敵人有生力量,現階段包括小牛飛彈、MK-84炸彈、JDAM(聯合直攻彈藥)等均是任務機的主要武裝。
小牛飛彈廣泛運用於戰場
長期服役的小牛飛彈之所以能夠享有極佳聲譽,不僅受到美國空軍飛行員的肯定,咸認是球最好的空對地飛彈,因小牛飛彈外銷情況良好,許多採購的國家也對小牛飛彈信賴有加,甚至持續將小牛飛彈列入新一代機種的機載武裝。像南韓政府出資,由南韓航太工業與美國洛馬公司共同開發的T-50金鷹超音速教練機正式亮相後,隨著該型教練機亦將朝攻擊機發展,稱為A-50,日後A-50機載武裝除有AIM9響尾蛇空對空飛彈外,小牛飛彈仍是對地攻擊主力,並攜帶MK-82、MK-83、MK-84等雷射導引炸彈。至於美國空軍的F-15E、F-16、A-10等各型戰機亦都攜掛AGM-65小牛飛彈。
小牛飛彈的導引方式依發展進程區分電視導引、雷射導引、紅外線導引等三種,電視導引是其A、B兩型,飛行員憑藉彈頭前方架設的電視攝影機掌握攻擊目標,一旦鎖定後即可將飛彈發射。而AGM-65C、E則採雷射導引,當敵方目標被雷射鎖定後,小牛飛彈循雷射光束攻擊,這種導引方式大幅提高準確度,但若敵方具備很好的電子戰能力,遭到電子反制的機率相對也高。至於採紅外線導引的小牛飛彈屬D與G構型,該型的彈頭前方配有一具紅外線熱源感應器,當感應器感受到熱源時就會循熱源鎖定目標,這種導引模式的最大特點在於全天候均能使用,戰場環境即使光度低、煙霧瀰漫,小牛飛彈仍有遂行任務的能力,而且命中率高。AGM-65G型飛彈長約二點四八公尺、翼展約七十二公分,彈體重量三百公斤,射程約三十公里。回顧美軍過去幾場重要戰役,小牛飛彈被廣泛運用,無論敵地面部隊、防空飛彈陣地、碉堡,幾乎難逃被牛群奔踏的命運,而帶給美軍豐碩的戰果。
  JDAM成本低戰果佳
JDAM(聯合直攻彈藥)是一種成本低廉且具有全天候精確投擲能力的精確導引空地攻擊武器,主要是通用型炸彈修改而來,在炸彈尾段加裝INS/GPS 接收裝置,確保攻擊的精準度。美國發展這種武器的基本需求非常簡單,即圓周誤差公算在十三公尺以內、與戰機的瞄準系統相容、有效儲放時間超過二十年。
 以一百一十八公斤的Mk-81炸彈修改而成的被稱為GBU-29JDAM,以二百四十一公斤的Mk-82 炸彈修改的是GBU-30JDAM,四百四十七公斤的Mk-83修改的是GBU-31JDAM,八百九十四公斤的Mk-84炸彈或BLU-109/B彈頭修改的是GBU-32JDAM,用BLU-110彈頭修改的是GBU-35JDAM。此外,GBU-32JDAM還可換裝自一九九五年研製的BLU-116/B先進通用鑽地彈,彈頭配備一個硬目標智慧引信(HTSF),在彈頭貫穿地下掩體各樓層時隨時計算其減速狀況,直到抵達指定深度才會引爆;配備 BLU-116/B的GBU-32JDAM其全重高達一千零二十公斤。
  JDAM可在低高度及高高度投擲,一次投擲便可同時接戰多目標,及重行設定目標及航線。科索沃戰事中,B-2 僅投擲六百五十枚JDAM,卻創下百分之十的目標摧毀率,成績驚人。攜掛 JDAM 的戰機須先輸入任務計畫,包括飛行包絡線、目標資訊及彈道終端參數等,戰機啟動時,JDAM的慣性導航系統同時開啟,目標資料自動下載至武器上,戰機抵達「容許發射區」時便可投彈。此時JDAM的導航系統自動接手,導引武器飛向目標。在GPS及慣性導航系統同時運作時,命中精度可達十三公尺半徑範圍,僅使用慣性導航系統時,誤差值仍在三十公尺內。一九九七年的試射中,全部二十二枚都命中目標周邊十點三公尺的圓周內,比預計的十三公尺範圍更佳。
  美國空軍於二○○一年對阿富汗的攻擊行動中,總共發射一萬八千枚空地彈藥,其中有一萬枚是精確導引攻擊炸彈,其中又有五千枚是JDAM。對比一九九一年波灣戰爭和二○○一年反恐戰爭,由於使用精確導引攻擊炸彈的關係,每天僅需派出二百架次戰機便能獲致當年每天派出三千架次的相同攻擊效果。當年以十架戰機攻擊一個目標,目前一架戰機便能同時攻擊兩個目標。美國目前已將JDAM發展成空地攻擊武器族系,由於改造簡單、成本低廉,已成為美軍有史以來最便宜的精確導引攻擊武器。
舖路系列擊毀目標比率高 
雷射導引炸彈是美軍於越戰末期開始使用的對地攻擊武器,由於具備成本低、效率高的優點,美國的友邦國家積極採購。美軍在一九九一年的波灣戰爭期間開始大規模使用雷射導引炸彈,在當年投射的各式空對地武器中,雷射導引炸彈佔使用量的百分之二十,不過擊毀的目標有百分之八十是由這類武器達成。一九九九年轟炸南斯拉夫期間,使用雷射導引炸彈的比率增至百分之四十五,擊毀目標的比率增為百分之九十。
  美製雷射導引炸彈被稱為舖路系列,舖路Ⅰ系列是匆促完成的首代產品,不久便推出經過改良的舖路Ⅱ,具有摺疊翼能滑翔較長的距離和擁有較佳的航電系統。舖路Ⅱ系列中各種型號炸彈分別為: GBU-10C/D/E/F:使用Mk84通用炸彈。GBU-10G/H/J使用BLU-109穿透式彈頭。GBU-12採用Mk82炸彈。GBU-16採用Mk83炸彈,GBU-17 採用HSM穿透式炸彈。另外,GBU-16也有加裝火箭推進器的動力型式,這是美國海軍專用型並且改稱為AGM-123。
  舖路Ⅲ系列是一九八○年推出的改良型,擁有一套全新的導控單元,新型尋標器可以標定較弱的雷射光源,容許攻擊者使用功率較低的雷射指示器或在惡劣天候中運用,也容許戰機以不同的飛行方式、投射航線投擲炸彈。較大型摺疊式彈翼使射程大幅增加,並能在較低的高度發射,與舖路Ⅱ相同都是由通用炸彈修改而來,其中GBU-24採用Mk84通用炸彈,GBU-24A改用BLU-109鑽地彈作彈體,這型炸彈在波灣戰爭中炸毀許多伊拉克自以為固若金湯的地下碉堡及掩體。
  舖路Ⅲ系列的兩種特殊衍生型是GBU-27和GBU-28。一九九一年的波灣戰爭期間,因伊拉克軍隊指揮所設於地下,為有效瓦解伊軍的指揮中樞,美國空軍特別趕製三十枚配備BLU-109/B彈頭的GBU-28雷射導引炸彈,精確攻擊伊軍指揮所。目前美軍有GBU-27/B和GBU-28/B等鑽地雷射導引炸彈,以GBU-28/B的威力最強,其貫穿能力是GBU-27/B的五倍,每架B-2轟炸機能夠掛載八枚GBU-28/B作戰。
  GBU-28/B全重二點一三噸、長五點八四公尺,外殼用二○三公厘砲彈製成,最大直徑三百七十公厘,所使用的 BLU-113A/B彈體裝有三百零六公斤的炸藥,最高能貫穿三十六公尺厚的土石或六公尺厚的混凝土。GBU-27/B的重量為零點九八噸、長四點二四公尺,彈徑與GBU-28相同,所使用的BLU-109/B彈頭裝有二百四十公斤的彈藥,足以貫穿三十公尺厚的土石或二點四公尺厚的混凝土。
 無論小牛飛彈也好,JDAM或雷射導引炸彈也罷,當決定地面攻擊目標後,能夠精準命中目標的武器必然是未來各國空軍加強對地作戰的重點。可以預見,地面部隊與軍事設施日後必須承受更大的壓力,如何因應也將是軍事變革的另一項課題。

Boeing Completes 1st Flight Tests of MK-84 Laser Joint Direct Attack Munition

ST. LOUIS, Sept. 28, 2010 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] announced today that it successfully completed the first flight tests of the MK-84 Laser Joint Direct Attack Munition (Laser JDAM) this summer at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. The first two of seven planned tests at Eglin demonstrated the 2,000-pound weapon's precision strike capability against fixed, relocatable and moving targets.

During the tests in July, two inert MK-84 Laser JDAM weapons were released from a U.S. Air Force F-16 test aircraft flying at an altitude of 30,000 feet and a speed of Mach 0.95. Both weapons flew a series of aggressive, preprogrammed maneuvers to verify their maneuverability and aerodynamic performance.

"Boeing continues to develop weapon systems to meet today's changing battlefield requirements to make smart bombs even smarter," said Brian Schoene, MK-84 Laser JDAM program manager for Boeing. "The MK-84 Laser JDAM is an example of Boeing's commitment to enhancing the capabilities of JDAM, the most reliable and effective weapon in the U.S. Air Force and Navy inventories."

An existing JDAM becomes a Laser JDAM with the installation of the Precision Laser Guidance Set (PLGS). The MK-84 PLGS uses the same laser sensor as the 500-pound MK-82 Laser JDAM, which has already been fielded with the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, and internationally.

"JDAM has been the warfighter's weapon of choice for more than a decade," said Kerry Bush, JDAM program manager for Boeing. "Laser JDAM demonstrates how the Boeing team is using affordable technology to expand the capabilities of a standard JDAM. By adding the PLGS feature, warfighters can now attack relocatable and moving land and maritime targets with the same precision and reliability that they rely on every day with the existing JDAM."

Known as the world's most accurate bomb guidance kit, JDAM is a GPS-aided, near-precision weapon used extensively by the U.S. Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and global allies in combat operations, including Afghanistan and Iraq. Boeing has produced more than 215,000 JDAM guidance kits since 1998.

    [據法國《防務航宇》2009年12月4日報導]    歐洲宇航航務集團(EADS)防務與安全(DS)公司和德國國防軍技術中心聯合測試了“狂風”戰機上集成的鐳射JDAM炸彈。
    負責“狂風”戰機鐳射JDAM集成工作的EADS集團業務部門是軍用空中系統分部。鐳射JDAM的代號為GBU-54/B,是波音公司新發展的一種JDAM型號,能夠在全天候條件下,直接確認和打擊靜止目標,也能在鐳射指示器的配合下,對付移動目標。該武器在德國“狂風”戰機上的集成,是其首個出口項目,接下來有可能裝備德國空軍“歐洲戰機”。

 EADS Defence & Security (DS) and Bundeswehr Technical Centre WTD 61 jointly have successfully tested a new type of air-to-surface armament for the Tornado combat aircraft. As part of the ongoing combat efficiency improvement programme ASSTA (Avionics Software System Tornado Ada) for the German Air Force Tornados, DS integrated the latest state-of-the-art laser-guided munitions in the Tornado weapon system.

Military Air Systems (MAS), the EADS DS Business Unit responsible for the programme, was commissioned in 2008 by the Federal Office of Defence Technology and Procurement (BWB) to integrate the modern Laser JDAM weapon (GBU-54/B) on the German Air Force Tornados.

In a test campaign over the North Sea in late October 2009 which was part of this adaptation to the weapon system, the Bundeswehr Technical Centre and MAS jointly tested the weapons’ aerodynamic and jettison behaviour on the aircraft. Three successful tests enabled them to verify the reliable weapon release of the Laser JDAM bombs from the aircraft.

EADS DS (and its predecessor companies) was via MAS the German industrial partner responsible for developing and manufacturing all the centre fuselages for the trinational Tornado programme. MAS was also in charge of the avionics and the communications system, the flight control computer and the entire computer system, including the weapon control and attack system. It was on the basis of this expertise that MAS was entrusted with the ASSTA1 programme for extending the Tornado’s service life.

After the successful completion of the first update programme, Germany and Italy decided to carry out further upgrade programmes to adapt the Tornados to the latest developments and secure their capabilities for some more decades. These activities now include the integration of new, high-performance weapons as an element of the ASSTA3 phase of the programme.

The Laser Joint Direct Attack Munition is a new development by Boeing and combines a GPS-guided conventional bomb body with a laser sensor. This makes it possible to identify and combat stationary targets directly, or, in combination with a laser target illuminator, also moving targets, in all weather conditions. Thanks to this combined target acquisition facility, the continuous internal update of target coordinates and the intelligent missile guidance, the weapon hits its targets with far greater precision. The adaptation of the Laser JDAM for the Tornado makes the German Air Force the first export customer for this advanced armament.

The Laser JDAM is later also foreseen as part of the stores compendium for Eurofighter aircraft of the German Air Force in their air-to-surface role.

 WASHINGTON --- The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress today of a possible Foreign Military Sale to Singapore of a variety of Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) Guidance Kits and Precision Laser Guidance kits including associated parts, equipment, training and logistical support for a complete package worth approximately $40 million.

The Government of Singapore has requested a possible sale of 670 KMU-572B/B Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) Guidance Kits, 670 DSU-38/B Precision Laser Guidance kits for GBU-54(V)1/B (MK-82)670 KMU-572B/B Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) Guidance Kits for GBU-28B(V)1/B (MK-82), 670 DSU-38/B Precision Laser Guidance Kits for GBU-54(V)1/B, support equipment, repair and return, tools and test equipment, spare and repair parts, publications and technical documentation, personnel training and training equipment, U.S. Government and contractor technical and logistics personnel services, and other related elements of logistical and program support.

The estimated cost is $40 million.

This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a friendly country that has been and continues to be an important force for economic progress in Southeast Asia.

Singapore needs the JDAM kits to help meet current and future threats of enemy air-to-ground weapons. Singapore will use the enhanced capability as a deterrent to regional threats and to strengthen its homeland defense. Singapore, which already has JDAM guidance kits in its inventory, will have no difficulty absorbing these additional enhanced kits.

The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.

The principal contractor will be The Boeing Company of St. Louis, Missouri. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale.

Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional U.S. Government and contractor representatives to Singapore.

There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale.

This notice of a potential sale is required by law and does not mean the sale has been concluded.

S. Korea to Arm KF-16s with JDAMs

SEOUL - The South Korean Air Force will fly upgraded KF-16 fighters carrying precision-guided Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) by the end of the year, a military source here said May 5.

The armament upgrade is part of the 2010-2014 arms acquisition and management plan being submitted soon to President Lee Myung-bak for approval, the source noted.

The JDAM-equipped KF-16 fleet would be able to conduct surgical strikes against thousands of North Korean artillery pieces hidden in mountain caves and tunnels near the border with South Korea in case of an emergency, said the source privy to the Air Force's arms improvement plans.

The KF-16 is the local designation for the F-16 C/D model of the Lockheed Martin-built Fighting Falcon. South Korea now operates an older fleet of 34 Block 32 F-16s purchased in the 1980s, as well as a newer fleet of 135 F-16s manufactured locally to the Block 52 standard from the mid-1990s to mid-2000s under a $5.5 billion licensing agreement.

The upgrades will initially be applicable to a fleet of about 20 newer Block 52 models delivered from 2003 to 2004, he said.

"The Air Force has been working together with the U.S. Air Force for the past years on improving the KF-16's computer systems, databases and cabling so that the aircraft will be able to carry a batch of advanced guided weapons, including JDAMs, AIM-9X tactical air-to-air missiles and GBU-24 laser-guided bombs," he said.

To that end, the Air Force has been studying ways to downsize the 2,000-pound JDAM to 1,000 or 500 pounds so the KF-16s can operate the GPS-guided weapon more effectively, he said.

"The upgrade works have almost been completed, as the KF-16 will be operational with JDAMs by year's end after ground and air-to-ground testing between July and August," the source said.

Once deployed, the KF-16 fleet with JDAMs backed by long-range F-15K fighters will play a key role in neutralizing North Korea's long-range artillery systems deployed near the heavily fortified inter-Korean border, he said.

The JDAM GBU-31 is a guidance tail kit that converts existing unguided free-fall bombs into accurate, adverse weather munitions. It enables employment of accurate air-to-surface weapons against high priority fixed and re-locatable targets. Guidance is facilitated through a tail control system and a GPS-aided internal navigation system. Its per-unit price is about $43,000.

The bomb has a range of 24 kilometers and can strike within 13 meters of its target, according to Air Force officials here. It can penetrate up to 2.4 meters of concrete, they said.

Radar Upgrade

Another key upgrade for the KF-16 will be a replacement for its existing APG-68(v)5/(v)7 radar systems, the source said.

The Defense Acquisition Program Administration confirmed the move. The agency said in a news release May 4 that it has been conducting a preliminary research on the KF-16 radar replacement but has not made a decision.

The Air Force is considering the EL/M-2032, developed by Israel's Elta Systems, which will also equip the service's FA-50 trainer-turned-lightweight fighters to be developed by 2012.

The mechanically scanned array radar is credited with a look-up tracking range of up to 100 kilometers and is thought to have better simultaneous target tracking capability than that of the current KF-16 radars.

"The Air Force was initially considering more advanced U.S. active electronically scanned array [AESA] radars, such as Northrop's Scalable Agile Beam Radar and Raytheon's active next generation radar, but has modified the idea due to the U.S. law forbidding the export and technology transfer of state-of-the-art weapon systems," the source said.

The rationale behind the move is the service's long-term plan to develop an indigenous AESA radar based on modern radar technologies from Israel, which is more amenable to technology transfer than is the U.S., he explained.

South Korea was forced to drop its earlier plan to equip the FA-50, a light attack variant of the T-50 built by Korea Aerospace Industries and Lockheed Martin, with the Vixen-500e AESA radar developed by U.K. firm Selex Sensors and Airborne Systems because of U.S. opposition.

Lockheed Martin opposed it, saying aircraft source code cannot be transferred to other nations and T-50 variants cannot be integrated with non-U.S. technology.

Instead, the U.S. firm pushed South Korea to select its AN/APG-67(v)4 radar, but the U.S. government this time rejected the move, citing the T-50 family's development and marketing agreements.

One of those agreements states that T-50 series aircraft may not be fitted with radars more advanced than the ones carried in KF-16s.

Lockheed later agreed on the installation of the Israeli radar because the system is to be integrated by U.S. firm ITT Defense, sources said.

Boeing Teams With TAK to Develop Wing Assembly for 2,000-Pound JDAM ER

ST. LOUIS, March 31, 2009 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] today announced an agreement with Times Aerospace Korea, LLC (TAK) to jointly develop a wing assembly for the 2,000-pound Joint Direct Attack Munition Extended Range (JDAM ER).

"This teaming agreement is a prime example of Boeing Weapons Programs' efforts to form strategic partnerships as we develop the systems our global customers need," said Debra Rub, Weapons Programs vice president. "Our alliance with TAK is an important step forward in bringing the expanded capability of JDAM ER to the warfighter."

Under the teaming arrangement signed Feb. 27, Boeing and TAK will co-develop, test, and field a JDAM ER wing kit to convert the 2,000-pound JDAM into a JDAM ER. Over the course of the 40-month development program, Boeing will provide support to TAK as the Korean company further develops its aerospace capabilities, including preparations for production of the JDAM ER wing assembly. Upon successful completion of the development and flight-test programs, TAK will become Boeing's primary supplier for the 2,000-pound JDAM ER wing assembly.

JDAM is a low-cost guidance kit that converts existing unguided free-fall bombs into accurately guided "smart" weapons. The JDAM kit consists of a tail section that contains a Global Positioning System/Inertial Navigation System and body strakes for additional stability and lift. The incorporation of the Extended Range wing kit extends JDAM's standoff range. The baseline JDAM has been sold to the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Navy, as well as to 22 international customers.

   有關人士表示,飛行試驗只是整個計畫的一部分,經過進一步分析後,將在今年7月證明“捕食者”可掛載JDAM的能力。
