A Lucky Day for the Beasts
by Peter Yeh & Kevin Wang
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygNH3sI3L_s
Kevin Wang: It is sultry today.
Peter Yeh: Is it sultry?
K: It IS sultry.
P: Then turn on the air-conditioner.
K: How do you turn on the air-conditioner?
P: Just press the button on the remote control.
K: But it is too hot for the air-conditioner to work.
P; Try it.
K: I already tried it yesterday but it didn’t work.
P: Try it again.
K: (Trying to turn on the conditioner) Why don’t you turn on the fan?
P: (Turn on the fan.) The fan didn’t work.
K: How about you turn on the fan and the air-conditioner at the same time.
P: How about turning them off at the same time.
K: If we turned them off then it would get hotter. What’s the reason for doing that?
P: But if we turn both of them on then it will waste the electricity.
K: Oh. I know. We can use the Yip-Yip fan. It doesn’t need any electricity and it keeps us cool right away.
P: Wow. Where do we get the Yip-Yip fan?
K: In Droon.
P: Where is that?
K: It is a place under the basement.
P: Then let’s go get it.
K: But we might need to go there tomorrow because if we go there today we will bump into the Golden Hornet.
P: Then let’s beat that beast.
K: Do you have any idea what the Golden Hornet can do? If it stings you, then your mind will be controlled by the evil spirit.
P: Then what can we do? We should give up.
K: There is a way. We can go there tomorrow morning. But there is still another beast in the morning too.
P: What? Another beast? Are you telling me not to go?
K: The moon fox is easy to beat. You just have to play the harp then he will listen to us and we can ask him to get the Yip-Yip fan for us. You are good at playing the violin so I’m sure that you can play the harp too.
P: Deal. Let’s go there tomorrow then.
K: Cool.
P: Yeah. With the Yip-Yip fan we will not suffer from the heat any more.
(The Next Day…)
K: Look, Peter, Come here fast! It is raining!
P: Great… Now we don’t even need that Yip-Yip fan!
K: I guess it is a lucky day for the beasts!

Some One
by Walter de la Mare
Some one came knocking
At my wee, small door;
Some one came knocking,
I’m sure—sure—sure;
I listened, I opened,
I looked to left and right,
But naught there was a-stirring
In the still dark night;
Only the busy beetle
Tap-tapping in the wall,
Only from the forest
The screech-owl’s call,
Only the cricket whistling
While the dewdrops fall,
So I know not who came knocking,
At all, at all, at all.
Something Is There
by Lilian Moore
Something is there
there on the stair
coming down
coming down
stepping with care.
Coming down
coming down
slinkety-sly.
Something is coming and wants to get by.
I Heard a Bird Sing
by Oliver Herford
I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December
A magical thing
And sweet to remember.
“We are nearer to Spring
Than we were in September,”
I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December.
