1. Learning about Literature (based on What your fifth grader needs to know, p. 49)
a. Drama:
(1) a drama, or play, is a special kind of story meant to be acted out on stage. Instead of telling you what happened, the dramatist, or playwright, shows you. If you see a play performed in a theater, the action unfolds in front of you.
(2) The first plays were written by the ancient Greeks, as part of religious festivals.
(3) The Greeks develop two kinds of plays: comedies and tragedies.
2. The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
a. Group reading.
b. Discuss the characters, the plots, and the scenes..
c. Retell the story with our own words.
3. Newspaper
a. International Herald Tribune
b. The Wall Street Journal
c. Bangkok Post
4. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain
All the club members are required to finish reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.
