1. Learning about Literature (based on What your fifth grader needs to know, p. 49)
a. Review imagery, simile, metaphor, symbols, personification, and onomatopoeia.
b. Define the word alliteration:
Alliteration means starting several words in a row with the same sound.
For Example: “The Eagle” by Alfred, Lord Tennyson
He clasps the crag with crooked hands;
Close to the sun in lonely lands,
You can hear the repetition of the hard “C” sound in the first line and “l” in the second.
2. Gulliver’s Travels
a. Listen to the story and write down the words or sentences as many as possible.
b. Discuss the characters, the plots, and the scenes.
c. Retell the story with our own words.
3. Newspaper
a. International Herald Tribune
b. Taipei Times
c. USA Today
4. The Secret Garden
All the club members are required to finish reading Gulliver’s Travels.
