1. Introduction

a. Explain the importance of translating for children and how it has been neglected.

 

2. What is Meant by ‘Children’s Literature’?

a. Define the meaning of children’s literature.

  i. It belongs to the genre containing numerous functions.

  ii. It belongs simultaneously to the literary system and the social-educational system, which makes the translation worth of the research as well.

 

3. Children’s Literature and Prestige

a. According to Peter Hunt, children’s literature has been working on its own identity and has encountered the situation of gaining the power from conventional literary system--English literature, which has been viewed as academic hegemony.

b. The stereotype of children’s literature has made it difficult to be considered as a dominant status in the literary system. The narratives, verse and drama of children’s literature are often regarded as novella, doggerel and improvisation rather than novels, poetry and mediated text, which makes the works of children’s literature be viewed as inferior under scholarly evaluation.

c. The awarded writers of children’s books are not usually considered eligible for major literary.

4. The Translation of Children’s Literature

a. The translation of children’s literature has been facing the arduous situation and sharing the same fate as children’s literature.

b. To break the vicious circle which the translation of children’s literature is facing is to develop skills in this field. Publishers carry the same responsibility as well.

5. Future Research Directions in Translating for Children

a. Appropriate research tools and methodology along with studies are needed

6. Screen Translation for Children

a. The term of ‘receptor’ is more appropriate than using the terms of ‘readers’, ‘viewers’ or ‘readers’, according to Oittinen(1993b:10)

b. Subtitling and dubbing are the two prominent forms of screen translation.

7. Major to lesser-used Language Translation

a. The translation for children may change continually owing to certain norms.

b. The translation of a major language, German, into a lesser-used language, Irish tends to be more colloquial.

8. Conclusion

a. The wide range of factors determine the final shape of a particular translated text.
