多年來，美國國防部一直未能控管好研發新武器的成本，目前已出現溢支的狀況，即使軍購預算已是數十年來最高，但軍方能買到的新武器數目卻相對減少。圖為第一架美國空軍新一代戰機F/A-22「猛禽」戰鬥機5月12日終於交貨，在維吉尼亞州的蘭格利空軍基地試飛後降落。 （法新社）

The Defense Department is scrapping the multibillion-dollar RAH-66 Comanche helicopter program being developed by Boeing and United Technologies Corp., government sources said on February 23, 2004. The cancellation is part of the Pentagon (news - web sites)'s continuing drive to transform the U.S. military into a force better able to face modern threats, they said.
