While he’s had a great professional life, his personally life has been messy.
Clint Eastwood is known as one of the great actors and directors of our time. In addition to his work with westerns, Dirty Harry movies and other assorted action films, he’s shown great versatility, both in front of, and behind the camera. When Eastwood has stepped away from the camera, things have gotten a little dicey. So, here are some things you didn’t know about Clint Eastwood.
1: Eastwood got the role of Dirty Harry because Frank Sinatra couldn’t hold a gun.
That’s sounds strange, but Eastwood was not the first choice to play Dirty Harry. It seems that Sinatra was indeed the initial choice to play the titular (today’s word) character, but couldn’t hold a gun. Without a gun Dirty Harry is only Unclean Harry.
2: Eastwood is quick on the camera as well as the draw.
When he’s directing, he likes to do a scene in one take. Whether it’s with a gun or camera, Clint likes to shoot quick.
3: James Coburn and Charles Bronson both turned down the lead in “A Fistful of Dollars.”
Coburn wanted two fists full of dollars to play the role and Bronson thought the script was terrible. So, Eastwood worked for $15,000 instead of the $25,000 Coburn wanted, and it turned out the script didn’t matter.
4: Clint turned down some iconic roles.
He was offered the roles of James Bond and Superman. It would have been great if he taken both roles and mixed up the wardrobes. You would have Superman in a tux and James Bond in tights and a cape. Mix things up a little bit.
Or how about having Superman’s true identity be James Bond? Getting a hard no on that.
5: His first film was 1954’s “Revenge of the Creature.”
He was a lab technician, not the creature.
6: After working at Universal Pictures for five years he was fired because of the size of his Adam’s apple.
In the ten pictures he appeared in for Universal, nine were uncredited. You have thought they could have at least credited him as, “Guy with big Adam’s apple.”
7: His biggest box office movies? “Every Which Way But Loose” and “Any Which Way You Can.”
Actually, I think he was riding Clyde the orangutang’s coattails on those movies.
8: In 2016 interview he said the key to looking young is not letting the old man in.
I’ve got a restraining order out on the old man. but he’s not respecting it.
9: If I’m looking at the right scorecard, I have Clint with eight kids by six baby mommas.
When looking this up, I saw one reference that said Clint had “8 known children.” So is eight an estimate? So Clint, you have to ask yourself, is it only eights kids? Do you feel lucky Clint? Well, do ya?
10: Eastwood’s affair with Sondra Locke was messier than you thought.
While many know Eastwood was married when he began his affair with Locke, not so many know Locke was also married. To a gay man. In addition, while Eastwood was “with” Locke, he fathered two more children with another woman.
It’s sems like Clint was ‘The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” all by himself. Clint’s work in his personal life is as stunning as it is in his professional one. But not in a good way.

Clint Eastwood and John Wayne Didn't Get Along—And the Reason Might Surprise You
No actors have dominated the western genre like John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, but the legends clashed.

When you think of the western genre, two actors come mostly to mind: John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. Both actors have come to define the genre, so it's perhaps surprising (or maybe not) that they didn't get along.
The reason is embedded in their different understandings of the western genre itself.
According to Comic Book Resources, the reason behind their legendary feud lies in two main areas, and it's why the two great actors never acted alongside each other. Eastwood broke through at the tail end of Wayne's career, and he redefined the concept of a western protagonist. Wayne may have taken this as a slight at his own career. But fundamentally they just saw the western genre differently, as well as the role of a protagonist.
Wayne "had always portrayed the upstanding hero whose conflict centered around doing the right thing in complicated situations," Comic Book Resources noted. "On the other hand, Eastwood represented, in many ways, the opposite archetype—the anti-hero. He played the cowboy who was just a few shades away from a criminal himself."
A script was even penned for a movie to bring them together on screen called The Hostiles, but it never happened because of these underlying tensions.
John Wayne Wrote Clint Eastwood a Negative Letter
Wayne refused to star with Eastwood in The Hostiles because he didn't appreciate his view of the West, Collider reported. The feud even boiled over to the degree that Wayne put his displeasure on paper.
In fact, Wayne wrote Eastwood a letter after watching Eastwood star in the movie High Plains Drifter, claiming, "It wasn't really about the people who pioneered the West."
In a book, Eastwood took on this criticism, Far Out reported, writing that he "realized that there's two different generations, and [Wayne] wouldn't understand what I was doing." Eastwood added, "High Plains Drifter was meant to be a fable. It wasn't meant to show the hours of pioneering drudgery. It wasn't supposed to be anything about settling the West."
Clint Eastwood and John Wayne Disagreed on How to Describe Acting
According to Slash Film, Eastwood was also critical of a quote Wayne made about acting. "I don't act at all, I react. In a bad picture, you see them acting all over the place. In a good picture, they react in a logical way to a situation they're in, so the audience can identify with them," Wayne said. "All I do is sell sincerity, and I've been selling the hell out of that since I started. I was never one of the little theatre boys. That arty crowd has only surface brilliance anyway. Real art is basic emotion."
But Eastwood disputed this idea of acting, saying, "I don't know what that means. I never have," he replied. "I think where that comes from is John Wayne used to make statements like that. He said, 'I'm not an actor, I'm a reactor.' You don't just sit and react, though. You have motivating forces that drive you on as an actor, as a performer performing that character."
Eastwood added, according to Slash Film, "There's no such thing as a reactor. It's not a very concise statement on what acting's all about — if there is a concise statement on what acting's all about."
