藝人蔡依林發表新書，她的「24堂英文日記課」裡，提到一個「劈腿」的情節， 教導大家「劈腿」的英文是 “has/have the third person”，媒體大幅報導之下， 引起熱烈的討論，撲朔迷離，一般讀者恐怕難以分清孰是孰非。
想知道「劈腿」的英文是不是 “has/have the third person”，找一兩位英美人士問一下應該就可以得到答案。不過當今網路發達，要自己查證英文用法並不困難。筆者透過 Google 檢索 he has the third person 以及 she has the third person 得到的結果是：
「找不到和您的查詢-he has the third person-相符的資料」
「找不到和您的查詢-she has the third person-相符的資料」
試著把句子裡的 “the” 改成 “a” 比較合乎文法，再用 “she has a third person”去查，發現只有兩例： 1.
She has a third person in the kitchen to see that the food gets into the proper dishes.
(她派第三位到廚房看做好的菜是不是裝對了盤子。)

Before Mary sees red, she has a third-person concept of this experience. Afterwards she also has a first-person concept.
(在看紅色前，她有旁觀者的體驗，看過後，她又有親身的概念。)
再輸入“he has a third person”，只見一例：
⋯the way he has a third-person narrator provide counterpoint throughout the film.
(他用第三者?述的手法讓電影處處呈現對比。)
在網路浩瀚的語料裡，卻只出現三例，而且沒有一個是「劈腿」的意思。
那「劈腿」英文怎麼說呢？一般最常見的說法就叫 two timing，據 Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary 的定義, “two-time”的意思是：
1：DOUBLE-CROSS
2： to betray (a spouse or lover) by secret lovemaking with another
若透過 Google 搜尋 two timing，會出現十萬筆以上資料；而「劈腿族」呢？就是two timer(s)。有一首英文流行歌曲—“Two Timer” (Dressed To Kill, 1975)，就是講女友「劈腿」的抒情歌曲。
Two Timer
She thinks she's high fashion
She thinks she looks divine
Just call me a three time loser
That's all I'll ever be
'Cause my baby's such a two timer
You know she's two timing, she's a-two timing me
最後兩句就是哀嘆「我的寶貝女友是「劈腿族」，她背著我「劈腿」。
「劈腿」除了 two timing 外，也可以說 “ dating two or more women/men”。
透過網路搜尋，也都可以找到兩三千個以上的例子，例如：
Loose Lips Sink Ships! Just because you're dating two or more women, doesn't mean you should advertise it.
(大嘴巴壞事! 劈腿就劈腿，不需要去張揚。)
有人說「劈腿」叫 “player”，若用在 “He's a player.”，上下文合適的情況下 “player” 也可以是「劈腿族」， 不過，player有許多意思，一般指演員，球員，用來指「劈腿族」，容易混淆，不如 two timer 普遍，要拿來指「劈腿」的行為(two timing)，就派不上用場。
