今天聯合報一篇『陸戰隊歌好MAN 馬建議改歌詞』，馬英九總統昨天公開表示，陸戰隊隊歌的歌詞不符男女平權，應該要修改；他笑著說，陸戰隊唱著「男兒壯志最豪雄，那女兒怎麼辦」？

更巧的是聯合報還又另一篇『改國歌倡男女平權 加拿大總理挨批』，說到加拿大國歌「噢，加拿大」英文版中，第二句「所有男兒皆為你忠心守望」（True patriot love in all thy sons command），被認為性別不平等，加拿大總理哈柏3日建議，後半句改回原來的「我們皆為你守望」（in thou dost us command），結果建議一出，立刻引來各方撻伐，加拿大維多利亞開拓者時報專欄作家理察森指出，在這種小事上作文章「太荒謬」，是「政治正確」的極端，他批評比起擔心國歌歌詞夠不夠男女平等，政府應該有更重要的事要做。

Yes. We certainly need to have a committee to examine this. This is a vital issue facing Canada today... for sure.
This is either just another attempt by the Conservatives to make us look over one way while they do something sinister in the other (Jason Kenney's mess), or this shows just how out of touch the Harper government is. Either way - useless.

Harper thinks that because Canadians are so against another election that he can do anything he wants...and without a vote he most certainly can. This is what the government needed time to recalibrate?

I think the words to O Canada are fine the way they are.
Change in some things can be a good thing, in others not so much. Leave well enough alone and worry about things that really matter like earthquakes that are killing so many and destroying their homes, or world hunger.
This world needs to focus more on God and humanity and less on the unimportant issues that get SOME people so bent out of shape.
God save and keep us.

Simply put, NO we do not need to change the wording! I'm sure the conservatives can find more vital/urgent issues to deal with, then screwing around with our National Anthem. Who voted for these idiots anyway!

No it doesn't need to be changed. I'm not saying it's never happened, but I've never heard of any other country even considering changing their anthems and this is one of numerous times we've heard it from Canada. We're our own worst enemies when it comes to killing our Patriotism. An anthem is something a citizen relates with. Change it and they lose their affinity for it.

I for one will still proudly sing the original words no matter what changes they try to make. And I'll sing them all the louder to make myself heard. Hopefully no-one will mind my mediocre singing ability.

I remember as a child , singing the anthem every morning in school. The lyrics at that time were "in all our HEARTS command". Lets return to those lyrics, they are not gender biased!

NO - enough with political correctness! There are so many more important things on this earth to be concerned with...

Why not leave it alone - why do we have to change all our traditions when they are meant to bring people together, not pull them apart??? Why can't people just get along without looking for "issues"? There are many more important things to worry about.

I agree with Andrew R's comment above..the wording of O'Canada does not need to be changed! If you wanted you could find reasons to pick apart the entire anthem and change all the wording around to make it politically correct..then you would end up with a brand new song..this is a ridiculous idea. The wording in O'Canada should remain the same.

I cannot believe that there are not more important issues to concern our politicians. Our troops are being sent overseas to war zones; the economy is dismal; the deficit is horrible; there are so many homeless people in our country; so many citizens with mental illness that need help; so many humgry men, women and children - To the politicians: leave the anthem alone - get on with looking after the greater issues that you are being paid to do.

I think O Canada should be left alone. When we refer to man, it is usually meant as man the species not as gender. We are getting too political correct, we as a society need to relax more about the small things. Only change the policies where it benefits women as whole.

How do people know that when the anthem was written 100 years ago, no one "meant to be offensive" or "exclude anyone". In the world of a century ago, it was considered perfect acceptable to exclude women - from voting, from becoming professionals, and from having a life outside the home. This subordinate status was reflected in gender-biased language where the use of "he" or "man" meant just that. Oh, and the anthem was written well before women could join the armed forces or the RCMP.

OH LOOK A DISTRACTION.
That's all this anthem business is about. The Conservative government is just dodging attention about Afghanistan, the throne speech and budget.
Why change the anthem now when just more than half of the Canadians just learned it this Olympic season. If anyone checked out Yahoo.ca during the olympics the Canadian anthem lyrics were in the top 10 search items. I think that is pathetic. Leave the anthem alone, you don't hear about Britons wanting to change their anthem even though it makes references to destroying their enemies? I think our anthem is in good taste, and doesn't mean to out right offend anyone. If you feel offended, simply don't sing, or don't stand up, because you have the right to do so.
